My Uncle Tommy (my mom's brother) is in the Maine National Guard. He recently called my parents to tell them about a soldier in the Guard who was wounded and recovering at Walter Reed. It was not a soldier he knew, but the Maine National Guard is a small organization and he wanted to show support for the soldier. He asked my parents if they could visit him...of course.
So, on Sunday, Nana and Papa drove to Walter Reed to visit David. He is recovering from an IED wound. Luckily, there is no TBI. His father was in the room with him. When my parents asked if there was anything he needed, David asked if they could pick up his fiancee from the airport on Tuesday night. Of course, said my parents.
On Tuesday night, my parents went to Walter Reed to pick up David's father so the fiancee would recognize them at the airport. My parents asked the father how David was feeling. He said that David had a hard day, but something wonderful had happened!
On Monday, a Colonel entered David's room to announce that the President would be visiting wounded soldiers on Tuesday. David's father reminded the Colonel that David had not received his Purple Heart yet.
On Tuesday, the President presented David with his purple heart!

Loved reading this story about the Maine soldier. He'll never forget who awarded him that Purple Heart!
Also, your parents are obviously very caring people to visit and assist that soldier the way they did. That speaks to me volumes about their character!
