This year, the whole 1st grade is making a "100th Day Trail-Mix." They each had to bring in exactly 100 of something to eat.
Originally, Alan wanted to bring in 100 mini marshmallows. When we went to the store, they only had the BIG ones. I couldn't see the teacher being happy that we brought in that option. So, we looked at the other options and he picked these.
He was having a little bit of trouble while counting; he kept losing his place. So, we came up with another solution. As you can see, Alan put his own twist on things by building houses or lining them up in different directions.

Thank goodness you posted this. We got hung up at guitar lessons and now the girls are in bed. I'm off to count 100 chocolate chips.
I do my counting the same way Alan does -- in piles of ten. It was cool to make little stick forts though!
