Monday, July 21stWe left dEE and Kerry's house after a yummy breakfast and headed out to Yellowstone. There are many entrances to the park. Originally, we planned on entering through the northern entrance via Livingston because we were staying at Mammoth Hot Springs. But, when we decided to pass Livingston and stay in Columbus, dEE and Kerry suggested we enter though their favorite: the Beartooth Pass.
It was not long before we were seeing snow capped mountains...in JULY!! Actually, Prisca and Nicolas, it reminded us a lot of Switzerland in the summer. Green mountains with a few snow peaks. Alan said it looked like sand traps on a golf course. The top altitude for the pass: 10,947...and that's just the pass...not the peaks!
And then we saw it: SNOW on the side of the road.
Us "Hawaiians" HAD to stop for that!
All the other people were just driving by...looking at us nerds...playing in the snow.
Teresa and Alan ran right over and started playing in it. Now, snow in July is...well...a little wet...
and cold...
Teresa started complaining that it was going up her pants and making her legs wet. Even Jim was saying he couldn't feel his fingers.
But, it was a ton of fun!
We did that for about 15 minutes before we had enough. Then we started driving the rest of the way to Yellowstone. The whole drive took us about 3 hours, even though it's only about 100 miles.
Right before the entrance, we saw another funny sign:
That's Wyoming for ya!

I wonder if any of the cars driving by your snow frolic noticed that you have Hawaiian plates on the car? :)
I am so glad that Teresa and Alan saw snow since there was none in Virginia for them when the came for Christmas a few years ago. None even within driving distance!
Beartooth pass looks like a big hit. I remember you said dEE and Kerry ride their Harley through the pass. Papa will be jealous to hear that!

Love the snow. We would have stopped too! We only had one snowstorm this winter. My girls are hoping for more next year. It reminds us of driving up Mauna Kea to play in the snow on the Big Island.
